Authoring Systems 

Scandura's authoring systems are based on years of basic and applied research in structural learning and software engineering.  These systems include:

EZauthor -  an easy-to-use, limited version of AuthorIT for Teachers and Other Adults.   In conjunction with TutorIT, EZauthor makes it possible to easily create a wide variety of highly adaptive tutoring and learning systems.

• Multi-media Blackboard Editor (BB Editor) for specifying kinds of learner responses and how content is to be displayed

• Easy to use system for specifying content to be learned

TutorIT Customizer - Easy to use system enabling teachers to easily add their own text and/or audio questions, instructions and feedback.

• Edit existing text and record your own voice

• Your new text and/or voice are automatically used when content is rerun in TutorIT 

TutorIT Customizer Plus - in addition to Customizer, the 'plus' version allows teachers to designate instructional, diagnostic and/or adaptive tutorial modes; supports adding custom Flash, audio visual and bit maps.

AuthorIT - a full-featured Authoring System for Professionals (patent pending).  - is used to represent the knowledge to be acquired and the kinds of problems to be solved.  Development times and costs are dramatically reduced because TutorIT makes ALL tutoring decisions (e.g., sequencing, generation of specific problems) automatically.  TutorIT  insures optimized diagnosis and/or instruction while offering a choice of adaptive learning, diagnosis, instruction, simulation and practice.

AuthorIT includes: 

• AutoBuilder (also see Development Systems for more detail) for specifying the content to be learned

• Multi-media Blackboard Editor (BB Editor) for specifying the way information is presented and obtained form the learner

• Shortcuts for quickly Authoring Highly Adaptive Tutors, which automate knowledge representation

• Options Dialog* for specifying a wide almost unlimited variety of learning systems, including highly adaptive, instructional, diagnostic, simulation and practice modes

• Built-in TutorIT for testing authored content

* A unique feature of AuthorIT is the ease with which it can be customized.  The author can easily specify a wide variety of learning or tutorial environments.  Basic forms of learning and instruction, such as adaptive, diagnostic, instruction, practice and simulation (see below), can be further customized by simply filling out a dialog box.

Available TutorIT Content is described under Learning Systems.  Currently available content, however, is merely illustrative. of what can be produced with EZauthor and AuthorIT.  AuthorIT's support for learning objects, including those built with powerful multi-media authoring systems, such as Macromedia's Flash and Swishzone's SWiSH, open opportunities limited only by the author's imagination.
