Opportunities

Please see Partners if you or your organization have strong commercial and/or technical expertise in e-business and/or distributed systems development.

Jobs:  Want to help develop and/or commercialize a new breed of cognitive software engineering tools?  Let us know.  We are seeking outstanding software engineers and technically savvy entrepreneurs to play leadership roles in both technology and commercialization.  We also offer unusual growth opportunities for student interns.

If you are a talented software engineer and/or an entrepreneur familiar with the software services industry looking for a major opportunity, then you will want to talk with us.  Please contact Dr. Joseph M. Scandura.

THE OPPORTUNITY: We are seeking key individuals who can help realize the full commercial potential inherent in our Internet based commercialization plan. SoftBuilder and Flexsys usage is monitored automatically over the net, and fully integrated into our data base. SoftBuilder and Flexsys are available to commercial users world wide at very favorable, highly cost-effective rates.  They are also freely available to universities for research purposes.

If you have business leadership skills, and are familiar with e-business and the software services industry, you will find this unique opportunity. If you have a strong background in the relevant technologies, along with Internet and commercial interests, we have outstanding opportunities for people capable of taking a technical lead in the commercialization plan. Collectively, the individuals selected must be capable of growing an advanced technology business, including both the necessary business skills and the requisite technical foundation. Only highly qualified people with outstanding technical expertise and/or entrepreneurial skills should apply.

Internships:

We actively seek talented student interns who want to make a difference. Internships may be combined with independent study related to our research on developing, refining and extending next-generation e-commerce, e-training, intelligent tutoring and software engineering systems.

The work will be led by Dr. Joseph M. Scandura, an Adjunct and Emeritus professor at the University of Pennsylvania, recently a Fulbright Professor in Germany, who has a long history of pioneering research in the cognitive sciences, intelligent tutors and software engineering.  We will work with you to jointly define a project of interest for your thesis, senior project and/or independent study. Projects can vary broadly depending on your interests and talents, and offer an unusual opportunity for technological growth spanning both academic and commercial activities.

Projects: You will be working on Softbuilder, Flexsys, AutoBuilder  and/or advanced Intelligent Tutor Development Systems technologies:

SoftBuilder is concerned first and foremost with making software  easier to develop and maintain.  Arbitrary systems can be modeled and tested dynamically before implementation.  Such systems may include humans and other event-handlers as well as software.  Of special interest is SoftBuilder's support for simulating and testing complex interacting systems.  e-business and e-commerce systems, for example, can be modeled and tested before expensive deployment.

Flexsys consists of a set of interoperable components and meta-components, which automate a broad range of reengineering and conversion tasks. Based on a display patent and another patent pending, Flexsys is unquestionably the most easily customizable reengineering and conversion tool set in existence today. Flexsys has been successfully field tested on large reengineering and conversion projects involving 3rd and 4th generation languages like C++ and Java, and is well positioned for large-scale commercialization in such areas as extraction of business rules from legacy applications, XML and E-Commerce.

AutoBuilder and Intelligent Tutor Development System (ITDS) open major new opportunities in both the commercial world and research. The AutoBuilder project aims to fundamentally change the way component-based software is developed and maintained. Based on ideas contained in a comprehensive patent published August 14, 2001, AutoBuilder automates many key specification, design, implementation and maintenance processes while guaranteeing correct software.  A major goal is to make programming accessible to non-programmers as well as automating tedious tasks programmers face everyday.  ITDS dramatically reduces the time and cost of developing intelligent tutors while ensuring that the tutors will achieve specified goals.  A broad varieties of such tutors will be introduced gradually covering a broad range of topics.  Please see Ordering if you wish to influence direction and priorities.
