Installation and Running Instructions - AuthorIT

1. Choose "Open" on the dialog that appears after clicking on the installation link. This will guide you through the installation process and install the selected system in a directory you choose.

NOTE: You are strongly encouraged to install the system in a \pro\AuthorIT directory.

/pro is the directory also  used for Scandura Development Systems with all supplementary data saved in other subdirectories of \pro. Installing in this directory could reduce the time required (and hence cost) for any technical support you may require.

WARNING: You must NOT install TutorIT in the same directory as AuthorIT.

2. Once you have installed AuthorIT, you will be able to able to edit and run any content for which you have been authorized.  Please contact Dr. Joseph M. Scandura  if you wish to build on or otherwise improve the content used in an existing tutorial.  Please include a brief summary of your plans.

1. You may launch your system using the shortcut created during installation.   Please keep in mind that, while doing so, your computer must be connected to the Internet.

2. To run, enter your Customer ID you received by email and the default password "flexsys".  You may change your password later under the File menu - see "Changing Your Password"  below.

Before using AuthorIT, you are strongly encouraged to go through and study the AuthorIT tutor.

You are encouraged to go through the tutorial at your own rate. It will introduce you to essentials of authoring and running intelligent tutors.  You also are encouraged to go through the SoftBuilder, and especially AutoBuilder tutorials. The latter is essential in analyzing content during the authoring process.

If you have registered for AuthorIT or one of the Development Systems, you may change your password by clicking on the Authorizations option under File on the pull down menu.

NOTE FOR THOSE USING AN OLDER VERSION OF WINDOWS: If an earlier version of Windows 95/NT reports that ctl3d32.dll (32 bit 3D) is not available, download it. Then, you MUST move it to the SYSTEM subdirectory under WINDOWS.
