Development Systems: All development systems are fully interoperable and may be packaged in any number of ways.  Three comprehensive, fully interoperable development systems are currently available.

SoftBuilder represents a new category of software -- programmable middleware -- that both speeds development and increases software reliability and maintainability. Flexsys provides an ideal compliment by supporting legacy systems, including XML development in our patented visual Flexform environment. AuthorIT: AuthorIT is based on almost 30 years of basic and applied research, which dramatically reduces both development times and costs -- while making it possible to guarantee that learners master the material in question in the shortest possible time.  In short, AuthorIT represents a complete and totally new approach to building and delivering intelligent tutoring systems.  AuthorIT includes: 

Instructional designers and domain/subject matter experts use AutoBuilder's patented processes to perform Structural (cognitive task) Analysis (SA) on essentially any task domain.  AutoBuilder can be used to perform SA with declarative, procedural (including factual and case-based) and model based domains.  The domains may be well-defined or ill-defined.  Both behavior and underlying cognitive processes (what is to be learned) are specified in a clear unambiguous manner.  The BB Editor is used to specify how information is to be  presented to and received from the learner.   

The result is a rigorously defined Abstract Syntax Tree (AST) representation of the to-be-learned behavior and cognitive processes.  ASTs represent what is to be learned at multiple but equivalent levels of abstraction, providing an excellent foundation for essentially any kind of  tutoring.  The GPT uses patent pending processes in conjunction with these ASTs to provide highly adaptive instruction.  Assuming that the AST representations are complete, the GPT can even guarantee student learning.  

A unique feature of AuthorIT is the ease with which it can be customized.  With a click of the key, the GPT becomes in turn: 

AuthorIT is currently being prepared for beta release and will be available for research purposes and to beta testers by the first of the new year (2003).  Beta testers will be free to develop their own content titles.  Scandura is making arrangements for distribution so authors will have a direct outlet for the courseware they produce using AuthorIT.  Once content meets commercial standards, it will be made available to the general public with authors receiving a royalty.   Please send a mail to Dr. Joseph M. In you email please indicate the content areas in which you have the greatest expertise, your familiarity with instructional design and your level of software expertise.  You will soon be able to freely download the AuthorIT tutor, which can be used to delivery diagnosis and instruction on any content.  This will be available no later than the beginning of the new year.  Please check for updates periodically.
