I have been
impressed with how quickly and efficiently TutorIT tutorials quickly and
efficiently pinpoint what individual students do and do not know and how
they identify exactly the information needed for each individual to
progress. I am excited about the potential of this truly
revolutionary set of technologies As a mathematician actively
involved in public school education outreaches, and a board member of
Science Resources, a nonprofit group that assists homeschoolers in
effective math and science education, I see tremendous promise in
tutorial systems that support basic skills. --- Dr. Scanduras tutorials
give the same interactive instruction as one-on-one tutoring, but with
the added benefits of pedagogically sound design, consistency and lower
costs. My children are going to public
schools but need additional help in math an area that unfortunately is
not my major strength. Right now, I am paying $100 per month for Kumon
math worksheets. Not only do I have to grade the work, however, but i
have to travel a considerable distance each week to report results and
obtain new worksheets for the next week. Having TutorIT math tutorials
that I can download over the web, and have them adapt to my childs
needs at his own rate is truly amazing. Your tutorials will be especially
helpful because deficiencies in basic skills make it increasingly
difficult of many of our students to keep up with the rest of their
class. I have been impressed with Dr.
Scandura s passion and hard work in the computer based and assessment
and learning area. I have been even more impressed with what he and his
team have accomplished with NSF support. The TutorIT Column Subtraction
tutorial they developed during Phase I is a major advance. The
improvements in substance as well as visual attractiveness, and ease of
use are impressive. Based on what I know of the industry, a line of
similar TutorIT math tutorials have the potential of reaching a large
audience. I have been following Dr. Scanduras
research since I first became aware of it over 30 years ago. His
theoretical and pioneering theory of Structural Learning provides an
unusually complete and precise foundation for adaptive tutoring systems.
... His (Dr. Scanduras) approach involves creating a precise
representation of the knowledge necessary for success in any given
problem domain. The theory also includes a systematic method, called
structural analysis, and tools or representing knowledge at multiple levels of
expertise. This representation provides a unique basis for
making all diagnostic and instructional decisions.
